UK Group Company Industrial Door Engineering has recently completed a major improvement programme at Morrison’s Supermarkets Wakefield Distribution Centre.
The work involved the removal of badly damaged dock shelters and cladding from 12 loading bays.
This was followed by the repositioning of the existing dock levellers together with the installation of steel frameworks and dock bumpers. This work ensures that the delivery vehicles cannot damage the cladding in the future.
The final part of the contract involved fitting new cladding and dock shelters, and the re-positioning of the traffic light units.
The work had been scheduled for a six week block, but due to co-operation from the client and the allocation of additional manpower, the works were completed in three weeks, thus keeping site disruption to a minimum.
Morrison’s site surveyors are delighted with the work and will be considering similar works at their other warehouses at Wakefield.
William Morrison’s Supermarket, one of the leading Supermarket chains in the UK required a major overhaul to the loading bay at their Stockport Store which involved the removal of some large heavy duty industrial gates and fencing and the fitting of a new electrically operated roller shutter door.
UK Group Company Industrial Door Engineering (IDE) are one of Morrison’s key supply chain contractors and were tasked with carrying out the necessary works.
Co-ordination with site was crucial as the operation of the store could not afford to be disrupted.
IDE technical representative Bernie Mikolawjewski co-ordinated all the works which involved the utilisation of a mobile crane to dismantle the old gates and steelwork, and the IDE site engineers who had to cut up the old gates to enable them to be removed from site, as well as the installation of the new electrically operated powder-coated roller shutter. The whole contract was completed over a 48 hour period and was performed to the satisfaction of Morrison’s senior surveyor Peter Monaghan who has praised the works that were carried out without disruption to the customer.
UK Group Company Industrial Door Engineering has recently completed the latest fire station upgrade for Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service.
This time, the site was an unmanned fire station in the village of Bollington.
The old folding shutters were causing operational difficulties and have now been replaced with two automatic overhead sectional doors that are fitted with safety beams and safety edges and they also incorporate a traffic light warning system.
The installation also included the supply and fitting of side and overhead cladding so that the complete elevation matches the doors.
Although the project was carried out over three days, IDE ensured that the site was secure at all times.

During the British Summer which lasts approximately a week, we went to visit Marshalls natural stone quarry in Huddersfield. The birthplace of the Rugby League. Marshalls stone quarry’s roller shutter was manual, but due to continuous use they decided an electric operated one would be more appropriate.
Our team headed out to the site to remove the old shutter which is considerably large, our focus was getting a 1no 3phase electric roller shutter operating as quickly as possible. The heat was a slight hinderance and annoyance but the job was completed on time and another customer completely satisfied.
