Mount Gambier Prison is located in the District Council of Grant, approximately 10 kilometres west of Mount Gambier in a farming community. It currently accommodates around 453 low and medium
security prisoners.

Group company Lietzke Security is please to be supplying and installing the security windows and doors to the expansion.

This project proposes to expand the prison by 112 beds, taking the prison capacity to 605 low and medium prisoners by 2018. Sixteen of these beds have already been brought on-line. The remaining beds will be accommodated in five two-storey complexes, each complex comprising four independent living units.

In addition to accommodation expansion, there will be an additional industries building and support building, which comprises an officers station, multifunction programs and education rooms, and recreational
indoor space. There will also be a refit for a new visits area, new medical facilities and new video conferencing.

The expansion of Mount Gambier Prison will increase the capacity of the South Australian prison system, with the current estimated capacity of 3,243 beds by the end of financial year 2017-18.
